Challenge -- Sarah

If a new industry were to come to town and require 1500 employees there would be positive effects and negative effects. The industry would attract people to town. We would have more money in town because of the industry. We would be low on money at first because it would take a lot of money to build the new business. When the business gets going it will bring more people to town, therefore we would need more houses and other businesses like restaurants, hotels, gas stations….etc.
The positive effects would be that the small businesses in town would get a lot more money. Our school size would increase. More houses would have to be built. More people would be able to find jobs because of the rapid growing of the town. We would have to build more restaurants, hotels, gas stations….etc.
The negative effects would be that the town would have more people and we could get bad people and gangs moving to our town. People might have to work longer hours. The town would have to increase water and power systems and that would cost money. To build houses would cost money. To build more businesses would cost money.
I think this would be positive and negative because if the town grew bigger we might get bad people moving here but more people would be employed.

-- If a Big Company Came to Town., Carly

I think that our town will grow because of the company. I wouldn’t want more people to come because then more people would come to school here. That means the town might have to make a bigger school, we might not have enough money to make one and bigger schools are confusing. We would need to make more hotels, gas stations and we would have to have more than two restaurant. The town would have to build more houses and apartments. We would have to make more stoplights and streets. That would make the town bigger so we will be able to build more buildings. The theatre would have to be made bigger, hockey rink and curling rink would have to be made way bigger to. If more people came here there would have to be more stores so that the people don’t have to go to the city and the taxes would be made higher.

Challenge--Kelsey

If a new industry was to build within town limits and requires 1500 employees there would be positives effects. The town would grow and more people would be able to get a job. The industry would attract more people to the town. The town’s business would make more money. At first the town wouldn’t attract more people because the new industry would just be starting but after a few months and everything got going people would come to town.

More people would move to town and people would have to build houses. We would need more contractors in town because they would be too busy with all the houses being built. The hotels would be busier because the people would need a place to live while their houses were being built.

Our schools would grow if more people came to town. The classes would be bigger and we would need to make the classes smaller. The school would be packed.
With all the people moving to town there would be gangs. People would get more violent. People wouldn’t be able to trust everyone. You wouldn’t know everyone in town.

King Louis VXI and Marie Antoinette "Poor Leaders" -- Kelsey

King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette brought the problems onto themselves. King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were not strong leaders. King Louis XVI did not know how to be a good and wise king to France. He was too lazy. Marie Antoinette did not come to France prepared to be the queen of France. I believe it was their fault that France started hating them.

King Louis XVI was a lazy and boring king. Also Louis XVI was dull minded. Louis XVI did not care about the government. Louis XVI was disinterested and could not make decisions, which he needed to make for France. All he cared about was fixing or making locks and keys. He spent his spare time making or fixing locks and keys. King Louis XVI was a weak king.

Marie Antoinette was not ready to be the queen of France. Marie did not know enough about France and the people that lived there. She did not care very much. I think she cared more when she first started being the queen then after; but either way she did not care as much as she should have. Marie cared about having parties with her close friends and family more than caring about France. Marie spent more money on her parties and her person garden than on France. Also she spent money on plants around the castle.

The fact that Marie Antoinette spent most of the money on her parties and her garden, Louis raised the taxes. When they raised taxes that is when France started to hate Marie Antoinette and King Louis VXI. France became poor. They did not have food for their families. France started to attack the castle. Louis, Marie and the children had a chance to leave, but the decided to stay. Some of France took King Louis XVI and his family, eventually to watch them. They tried to escape but a man noticed who they were. King Louis and his family were brought back. Louis and Marie were killed. I believe it was their fault that all of this happened, because they were such poor leaders.

Napoleon Bonaparte --Sarah

Napoleon Bonaparte was a selfish person and only did things that benefitted him. He was the leader of France during the Enlightenment. He had himself made the First Consul for life and proclaimed himself Emperor of France. He also took over the directory. He was a bad leader for the French because he only cared about his army, but he did some good things for France only to advance himself and his army.

He created public schools that everyone could go to but he only wanted to better educate people for his army. He created national banks and an empire. He created the Napoleonic Code that was not good for women or children because it made them lose their rights.

Napoleon only cared about his army and himself, but he lied to people. When he lost a battle he went back to France and did not tell anybody that he lost and everyone thought he was a hero. He mislead his troops. Napoleon only lied to get a better rank for himself and just wanted to be on top of everybody else.

When Napoleon was fighting in battles he destroyed people’s homes and made people’s lives very difficult. He did not make life easier for the French. Napoleon was a bad leader for the French and was just in it for himself.

Napoleon Bonaparte 'Good and Bad' -- Carly

Napoleon Bonaparte was a very selfish and self centered. Although there were some things that France benefited from. Napoleon only wanted what was best for him and he didn’t care about any of the people in France unless they were in the military.
My opinion is that Napoleon was a bad and good leader. For example Napoleon made public schools but he only made them to better his military. Napoleon took away all the rights from women and children, men had all the power over the household and them. Another one is that he was extremely confident which lead him to think that the only person that was important was him.
Some good things Napoleon did were. Napoleon fought at the frontlines (in front of his army not at the back). He enforced laws for all the citizens. For example he made all the citizens pay taxes. Napoleon made the bank of France and took over the Directory. He also strengthened the French Economy and he made the Napoleonic code.
Napoleon conquered most of Europe. He won the battle of Moscow and he also broke up the mob in Paris, which made him very popular. In his last battle before he was exiled to Saint Helena, he won the battle of Waterloo. He studied war so that made him able to run a good military.

Napoleon ` ` Good and Bad? -- Franky

Napoleon is a greedy man yet he has done very helpful things to society. He had people make himself the First Consul for life and decided himself Emperor of France. He was a bad leader yet he wanted to some good things to stay the leader of France, it made him feel in control. There are a few things that society benefited from his selfishness for him and his army.
He created the Napoleonic code but it took away rights of women and children. He created public schools for everyone but he only did that to benefit the strength of his army. When he was fighting in battles napoleon always fought in the front, when most leaders sent his soldiers in front of them and watched his soldiers die. He was a very confident person which made him become more successful.
There are a few things that are also very unlikeable about Napoleon too. He was very selfish and wanted his army to be the best. I don’t think he really cared about anything else except his success.
Many people think that Napoleon was a bad person but I think that he wasn’t all that bad. He may have done greedy things, but it did benefit society in the end.
